Claire is terrific as she is in everything and I was thrilled when Petula Clark appeared as the bird lady. My very talented friend Claire Moore is in Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre and it's a fabulous production, do go if you can. We always go along to Upstairs at the Gatehouse in Highgate to see their excellent musical, this year it was 42nd Street featuring some absolutely incredible tap dancing, such talent and energy! The whole evening was absolutely glorious and a great start to our Christmas. Rufus brought the house down with an acapela version of Oh Holy Night, sensational. Actress and singer Martha Plimpton did a great version of Silver Bells with Martha and Lucy.

Also Kami's mum, the renowned Linda Thompson and her grandson Zak Hobbs, it really was a Family Affair! Jenni Muldaur (daughter of Maria). It was really festive and they had guests such as Guy Garvey, Chrisssie Hynde, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Ed Harcourt, Neil Tennant, Dan Gillespie was the MD and his band, The Feeling, played for everyone (they were all excellent) and the guitarist James Walbourne and his wife Kami Thompson, (together known as The Rails). What a family! Lucy Wainwright was also appearing and she has a voice as clear as a bell, I hope to go and see her solo show when she's here soon. Went to the Royal Festival Hall in December to see Rufus and Martha Wainwright's Christmas show which was SO good. I do hope we get to work together again sometime (watch this space).ĭid a great show with the British electric Foundation just before Christmas too, always have a fabulous time with those guys. Then, the highlight of the night for me was singing I Wish it could be Christmas Every Day with Roy! What a privilege. Together with his band he had a string section and wrote a beautiful arrangement for Cry Me A River, as well as Just What I've Always Wanted. When I arrived in Birmingham for the concert I couldn't wait to hear his set - I've attached the set list here as well as a lovely pic of Roy and his backing singers Sharon and Michelle. And those incredible songs, all written by Roy, from the superb Flowers in the Rain (first record to be played on Radio 1 by Tony Blackburn in 1967), to the siren-vocals of Fire Brigade and the dark and mysterious Blackberry Way, and that was just the beginning, before Wizzard etc. I grew up listening to The Move and saw them at the Empire Pool (now Wembley Arena) NME Poll Winners Concert May 11th 1969! Wish I could remember what I was wearing? Carl Wayne was the singer (as well as Roy) and I remember thinking he was dead sexy that day in his leather trousers.

The man is a genius in my opinion and when he asked if I would be his special guest at his Rockmas show at Birmingham Symphony Hall I could barely contain my excitement. A huge highlight of my career was working with THE Roy Wood.
