There’s a papable physical attraction, but even more than that is the fierce emotional ties that bind them. What I thought was similar was the strong emotional connection between Merripen and Win, the leads in Seduce Me at Sunrise. The book had some similar underpinnings with the hero being of the lower class with a grotesque background who feels completely unworthy to be loved by the heroine, a gently bred young woman. Some have told me that Seduce Me at Sunrise was as good as Kleypas’ penultimate book, Dreaming of You, featuring Derek Craven and Sara Fielding. The love scenes also reflected this nicely with a perfect blend of heat and emotions. I love Merripen with his brooding angst and his desire for Win. The plot was crammed with immersive details of the period and the feels were strong. It is very much about family loyalty, support, and sacrifice. There is a real sense that this series is about the Hathaways as a whole, rather than just individual stories, and how they pull together time and again. Merripen and Cam also have their own mysterious past to resolve while we delve deeper into the lives of all the Hathaways.
However, she’s willing to risk everything to have a life with Merripen. Win has much recovered but she will still be weaker than others. After a year apart, Merripen is even harder to reach, and refuses to acknowledge their feelings for each other, so she agrees to be friends. At the beginning of this book, Win has returned from France after trying a new treatment for her condition.
